RF2: Tips and tricks

On this website there are many things you can do that might come in useful:

  • You can hide the information bar on the left by clicking on this Image   icon
  • Many pages in the Web Environment ("Study Materials") section are formatted in four parts:
    • The left column contains a description (text, figures, formulas etc.) at the top and references at the bottom
    • The right column contains one or more videos at the top and exercises at the bottom.
  • In pages with this type of layout, you can click on the label ("Description", "References", "Video" and "Exercises") to display that part of the page full screen.
  • You can monitor a page (or set of pages) by clicking on this Image   icon. You will then receive an email whenever that page (or set of pages) is updated. You will already receive email notifications whenever an announcement is added or modified.
  • You can rate a page (video/quiz etc.) by clicking on the appropriate icon and hitting the "rate" button at the bottom of each page:

    File not found.

This will allow the lecturers to prioritize the pages that need improvement/updating and is therefore extremely welcome (as well as in the interest of you, your colleagues and future students). Leaving comments and asking questions through the forum is similary highly appreciated.
  • You can edit and even create pages in the web environment to help explain things that you understand particularly well to other students, or to correct mistakes etc. By clicking on this Image icon you will be taken to a simple editor where you can modify the content of a page. After hitting the save button at the bottom, your edits are immediately online. Don't worry too much about making mistakes: the system has extensive back-up and version management options, so if something goes wrong you can always ask a lecturer to revert the page to a previous version. Nevertheless, we ask to please use common sense and don't add any content that could be interpreted as illegal, insulting etc.
Editing complex pages (such as pages with multiple sections in the Web Environment/Study Materials section) is easiest by first displaying the part that you want to edit ("Description", "References", "Video" and "Exercises") full screen by clicking on its label.
  • There's no accounting for taste (or fashion, for that matter) and obviously you are (a lot) younger than (some of) your lecturers. Therefore, you can change the look and feel of the website to suite your personal preferences by selecting a theme from the box in the left column of the website.
